Week #2 – I Love Nablus!

Unfortunately, I am having trouble including pictures this time – not sure why – but as in all places, nothing is ever simple. Please ck back to look for pics – I’ll do my best to have them in the next day or so.

Update on the Ghawe family in Sheikh Jarrah (East Jerusalem) – On Monday, April 5, settler youth began throwing stones at the family as they sat across the street from their home of 53 years, from which they had been evicted. Then a settler approached Nasser and attempted to stab him. The police were called and if you haven’t already guessed – it was Nasser, the victim, who was arrested.

Monday – Monday, April 5 – 12

Rocky, my Aussie ISM buddy, and I traveled to Nablus on Monday, about one hour north of Ramallah, to arrive at the ISM flat where we and several other ISMers will stay to clean the flat and get it ready for use – getting hot water into the bathroom, internet access, etc. We spent the day cleaning, buying cleaning supplies, food etc. Purchasing what we needed was such great fun as it was done in the souk (market) of the Old City of Nablus – you can see most anything there: all kinds of lovely produce, as well as herbs and spices, meats, goats heads (for soup), kitchen needs, musical instruments, clothing, souvenirs, religious accoutrements, etc, etc – its really quite an experience just walking through the souk – all the diverse colors, smells, tastes and textures.
